Leaning your Stuff!

I recently had reason the change one of the computers in the Calvary Grace office. Since the old machine's motherboard had died and the cost of repair would be more than the cost of replacing, we decided to replace the machine.  After considering what and where to buy I jumped in the car and drove down to the local computer store. Within moments of reaching the computer section one of the salesmen offered to help me. My question to him was very straightforward and simple, "do you have a 32 bit system for sale"?  Without batting and eyelid he said, "yes sir, all our computer systems can be set up to run either 32 bit or 64 bit. The difference is only in the setup. You will be given an option to select either 32 or 64 bit in the setup sequence?" Are you absolutely 100% sure," I asked. "Yes sir I have set up many of the new windows 7 systems and always have been able to make the choice in the setup!" So, thinking that the new operating system was indeed a marvel, I bought the new computer.

After reaching the church office, and carrying the heavy boxes in, I excitedly unboxed the system and installed it into its place in the office. Diving under desks and feeding wires through impossible places I finally got it in and ready to switch on for the first time. With great anticipation I threw the switch and watched as the computer came to life.  There were no end of questions as to how I wanted it set up but not one moment when I was asked whether it was to be setup as a 32 bit or a 64 bit. Feeling quite sure that I had made a mistake, I called the company and asked to speak to the tech squad person in the computer department. "There is no such switch or setting in Windows 7 sir," the tech matter-of-factly told me. "So why was I sold this system if it would not do what I needed it to do, doesn't your sales person know his product?" I asked. " I guess not," agreed the tech.

It began to make me think I wonder how many people know their product when trying to represent Christ. I wonder how any have misrepresented the Lord in trying to lead people to the Lord. I will never again shop in that store and I wonder how many people have been soured to the gospel because those preaching it knew little or nothing of what they were saying. If you ever needed a reason to read and study your bible this has to be it. Study to show your self approved! Know the gospel inside and out and make no mistake unsaved people will either give their hearts to the lord because of what and how you present the word or not. Learn the word to the best of your ability and show yourself one of God's good workmen.

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

  2 Tim 2:15 (NIV)
